Denton Ballet Academy Protocol
Studio Protocol
GROOMING: Girls in Levels I, II and III are required to have their hair restrained in either a bun, pigtails, or pony tail. Please do not wear jewelry, including bracelets, necklaces, ankle bracelets, or large earrings in class. Stud earrings are acceptable. Girls in Levels IV, V, and VI are required to have their hair fixed in a classical bun secure enough to withstand turning and jumping. Hairspray, gel, and other products to make the bun slick and secure are recommended.
ARRIVAL TIME: Do your best to arrive to class on time. If you are late, wait at the door where the teacher can see you and he or she will bring you into the class at the appropriate time. Students are required to enter the studio through the main studio entrance facing Teasley Lane. We are not allowed, by our dancewear suppliers, to permit students arriving for class to enter through the Danse Boutique.
COVER-UP POLICY: Students are required to wear a cover-up and street shoes when coming to and leaving The Academy. It is inappropriate to wear dance clothes and costumes as street clothes. This applies to students of all ages.
FOOD AND DRINKS: Bottled water is allowed in the studio. Food and drinks, especially soft drinks in paper cups, are not allowed in the studio or any of its common areas. If snacks need to be consumed, please do so outside.
CLASSROOM CONDUCT: In order for there to be an effective and comfortable learning environment in class, parents should go over the following guidelines with their children:
- Students should raise their hand to speak and always avoid talking with other students during class.
- Students need to pay attention to the teacher and follow his or her instructions.
- Under no circumstances should students hang or lean on the barres or run in the studio.
- Students must ask for the teacher's permission in order to leave the class. Upon return, student must wait outside the studio door and wait for the teacher to bring them back into the class at a time that is least disruptive to the class.
- Prior to the start of class encourage your child to wait quietly.
- Have your child take care of bathroom needs before arriving at the studio. However, if there is a bathroom need after arrival, please attend to it prior to entering the classroom.
- Have your child properly prepared to receive instruction prior the start of class. The teacher/student relationship is stronger and more productive when it is properly explained to the student by their parents.
- Dancers' siblings must not be left unattended and should remain with parents at all times. Please bring a book or quiet toy to keep them occupied, and do not let them play on the stairs, in the parking lot, or in the Danse Boutique.
- Dancers who are old enough to be dropped off by parents are expected to know and follow all of the above guidelines. They should quickly get themselves ready for class and wait quietly until it is time for their class to begin.
- Please feel free to observe your child during class from outside the studio. We know you want to watch your child grow in their dancing and poise. At the same time, be aware that too much observation can distract your child from their class instructor and break their concentration from the work they are attempting to do. If your observation becomes a distraction for your child, you may want to consider a less frequent pattern.
